How Art Works

Often times people want a discount for our artwork, or "Tawad" as we call it in the Philippines. Even though we explain that we donate 100% of the art proceeds directly to the CCDF ministry expenses, some people still drive a hard bargain. Shown here is Mark Merrill during one of the out- door art shows in the Philippines. The Belgian and Swiss Ambassador's wives bought paintings, but wanted more at a big discount. Using some creative thinking, we asked if there was any foreign aid that we could receive for the amount discounted. "YES" came the reply, and through a purchase grant we were able to obtain steel lockers for the street children to use at Kanlungan street kid shelter.

Children who live on the street not only don't have a home or bed to call their own, but they also don't have a secure place to hide what little possessions they may own. While sleeping, sometimes the sandals are stolen right off their feet. These lockers provide a sense of security and belonging for kids who live in or drop by the kid center in Manila.
